No one should feel pressured into downing a drink, so appreciate your own limitations and those of others. There are drinking games for two couples or large groups, here are our top five.

If you are looking for some inspiration for some new drinking games for your flatmates, the next student party or a night out there are some games that will get the party started that will please the majority. No one should feel pressured into downing a drink, so appreciate your own limitations and those of others. There are drinking games for two couples or large groups, here are our top five.

Football drinking game

If you are all meeting up to watch a football match on the big screen, a football drinking game will have you take one, two or three sips/glugs of your drink for particular actions on the pitch. If you are placing bets on a particular aspect of the match and taking advantage of a sign-up offer like the Betway bonus, down a drink if you win. A corner or save is one sip, a decent cross or a yellow card requires two sips, whilst a red card equals three sips and a goal means downing the drink in one.

Mr and Mrs

Mr and Mrs is not just for couples. The first pair (gender and relationship are irrelevant) sit back to back and are asked a series of questions, the more controversial the better, like "Which out of the two of you would fetch more in an auction?" If one of the couple thinks it is them, they raise their glass in the air or move it to the floor if it fits the other person. If their answers do not match, they have to drink. If the answers match, there is no drinking forfeit.

Ring of Fire

All you need is a pint glass and a deck of cards. Spread the cards around the glass in a circle facing downwards. Each card has a rule (the suit is irrelevant). Each person takes a card in turn and follows the rules, which you can download, but a couple of examples a four means all males in the game must drink (it is six for females) and nine has you choose a word that other players have to match with a rhyming word, with any hesitation or repetition penalized with a drink.

Never Have I Ever

Great to get to know each other better, making it perfect for Freshers Week, Never Have I Ever can reveal some interesting and potentially scandalous facts about new people you've met. Each person takes a turn to say a sentence beginning "Never have I ever..." and the more embarrassing the end of the sentence the more fun, including "Never have I ever been arrested / ever blamed a fart on a pet / had a threesome. If someone has never done X, they have to take a drink.

Beer Pong

A drinking game that requires some physical skill, set up a table with 10 plastic cups at each end, arranged in a triangle shape. Fill each cup with your chosen beverage. Two teams then have to try and throw a ping pong ball into one of the cups at the opposite end of the table. If the ball lands in the cup, one of the opposing team members needs to drink it. The first sided to get rid of all the cups wins.
