This game is played by setting up a pyramid made of 15 cards. The base should have five cards, with the top consisting of one. Every player taking part is given four cards by the dealer, who then turns over the top pyramid card.

If any of the players in the game has a card valued the same as that pyramid card, they can instruct another player in the game to take a drink. The length of the drinking period is decided by where the card was within the pyramid: e.g. a card at the top involves the shortest drinking time while one at the bottom means the longest booze guzzle.

Should the person with the card matching the one that has been turned over have more than one in his or her hand that matches it, they can double the length of the drink (if it is two matching cards) or treble it (if it is three). The twist is that the player told to drink can call the bluff of the person claiming to have a match.

If the card really does match, the accused can make them carry out the drinking forfeit. If it was actually a bluff though, the accused must do the drinking.

Card of Lies

Another great drinking card game is this one. Suitable for up to four players, all you need for Card of Lies is a deck of cards and plenty of beer.

Start by dealing each player three cards and providing them with beer and then each player takes a shot at naming one of their three cards. However, they can either name correctly or lie about the value of the card.

If another player guesses correctly about whether it is a lie or the truth, the player who named the card must chug some beer. If the guessing player gets it wrong, he or she has to down the beer.

If all of the players guess wrongly, they all take a drink. The player who named their card then puts that one down and picks another card.

If all of the players guess correctly, the player who named the card must put down their card and not pick another up. The ultimate aim of Card of Lies is to be the player left with the highest number of cards.

Kings

This is among the most popular drinking games. The cards are laid out in a circle with the drink in the middle.

Each player has a go at taking a card and then has to carry out the forfeit for it. Among the forfeits are:

Two: the person who drew the card picks another player to drink.

Three: the person who drew the card must drink.

Ace: everyone player must begin to drink in time with the player on their left, beginning with the person who picked the card.

Five: all the male players drink.

Six: all the female ones drink.

There are different forfeits for each card in the pack and it is over when every card has been drawn. It is a simple game that gets everyone involved quickly, making it perfect for parties.

Across the Bridge

Our last drinks card game is Across the Bridge. This is a very simple game that sees ten cards laid in a row, face down, and the players go along the row lifting a card each time.

If the card that a player turns over is one with a number, they move on to the next card. If it is a face card, they must have a drink and take that card out of the row before adding more to the end of it.

The jack card sees one more added, the queen means two, the king three and the ace four. The game goes on until one of the players gets all the way to the end of the 'bridge' of cards.
