8 Unusual Drinking Games To Try At A Friends Get-Together

When I think of a drinking game, I think of King's Cup, Beer Pong, or Flip Cup. And while these games have a reason for gracing the tables of college dorms, there are so many creative, fun, and wild drinking games out there, perfect for group settings.

These games are designed to bring friends closer together, have a laugh, and enjoy some relaxation. Of course, there is drinking involved, too; however, any of these games can also be enjoyed with mocktails or sodas.

1. Who’s Most Likely To…

Who’s Most Likely To… is best played with people you know. It is a great game, but no one is safe.

The premise is simple. You can either write down questions about a hypothetical person or make them up as you go along. Here are some examples:

  • Who’s most likely to go to prison?
  • Who’s most likely to join a cult?
  • Who’s most likely to finish an entire bag of crisps in one go?
  • Who’s most likely to lose their car keys?
  • Who’s most likely to get back with a red flag ex?

As each question is read or stated, everyone points to the person whom they think best fits the situation. The person who has the most fingers pointed at them takes a drink. If there is a tie, both drink.

It is a low-effort game that not only will have you laughing, but also have you question your own existence when the fingers point your way.

2. Slot Shot Bonanza

Slot Shot Bonanza combines the excitement of casinos with the fun of having a drink. You should start by accessing either a real online slot game or a slot simulator. eSportsInsider reviewed some of the top chicken-themed slot games if you want to have a laugh while playing this game. Chicken Rush and Chicken Drop are two good options for this drinking game.

Each person takes a turn to spin the reels. If three symbols line up, the player takes a drink. The symbols themselves also influence what drink is had. Let’s say you’re playing this game using Chicken Rush. If three of the whole roasted chicken symbols line up, take a sip of wine (it goes well with chicken!). If you get three pistols, take a vodka shot.

3. Minesweeper/Where’s The Water

There are two variations to this game:

  1. Minesweeper: Place 20 shot glasses on a table, filling 10 with vodka or another clear spirit, and 10 with water. Arrange them randomly. Everyone takes a turn to take a shot.
  2. Where’s the water: Fill several cups with either water or clear alcohol. The first player takes a big sip and has to convince everyone that they just drank some water (even if they didn’t). The group has to guess whether the cup has water or alcohol. If they’re right, the first person has to empty the cup. If not, everyone else takes a sip of their own drinks.

4. Drunk Mario Kart

There are many variations of Drunk Mario Kart. The easiest way to play is to simply commit to finishing a beer, seltzer, or cider before the end of the race. You have to put down the controller each time you drink.

Another variation is to create your own rules. You can drink when there is lightning, or chug your drink when you get hit by a shell.

5. Drinking Jenga

Drinking Jenga will require the classic Jenga game and a sharpie or dark pen. Before you start the game, everyone gets a set of Jenga blocks and writes a rule on each one. Drinking prompts can be:

  • Take a sip of your drink.
  • Upload a selfie to your Instagram stories.
  • Keep quiet until your next turn.
  • Swap drinks with the person on your right for the rest of the game.

Next, you set up the game as you usually would. As players take turns removing blocks from the tower, they must follow the rule on their selected block.

6. Power Hour

Power Hour takes determination and dedication. The game is simple. A timer is set for an hour, with an alert going off every minute. As each alert pings, everyone must take a sip or a shot (although the latter may lead to bad decisions).

That’s it! It is a fun way to pass the hour, everyone will get their buzz on, and the get-together can continue as normal when the 60 minutes are up.

7. Cardboard Chaos

I may have made up this name, but this is a popular drinking game without an official title.

You will need a piece of cardboard, a pen, and a coin. The inside of a pizza box will do. All the players write down their names on the cardboard and draw a circle around it, careful not to take up too much space or overlap.

The first player flips the coin onto the cardboard. If it lands on someone’s name, that person has to drink. If it lands in a clear space, the player must make up a rule and write it on the cardboard, circling it. Then the next player repeats the process. If the coin lands on a rule, the player must perform it. For example:

  • Take a shot.
  • Speak with an accent.
  • Hold the hand of the person next to you.
  • Show your Google search history.

Continue until the cardboard is full and the situation has become chaotic.

8. Movie/Series Drinking Game

If you have friends over for a movie or series night, why not spice it up with some drinks? Create a set of rules before you start watching that indicates when everyone must take a drink. The rules can be specific to what you’re watching. Here are some random ideas:

  • Friends: When Joey says: “How you doin’?”; When Ross and Rachel kiss; When Monica cleans.
  • Star Wars movies: When the Force is used; When there is a scene depicting outer space; When there is a lightsaber fight.
  • Game of Thrones: When there are dragons; When someone says “A Lannister always pays his debts”.
  • Marvel movies: When two or more Avengers are featured together; When Groot speaks; When there is a character crossover.

Wrapping Up

There is nothing wrong with a good game of Beer Pong when hanging with your friends, but exploring new drinking games is an easy way to create a more memorable evening. With many of these games, your only limitation is your creativity, so start playing and get drinking!
