Setup

Divide the players up into teams of two. All players sit in a circle but no person can sit next to someone else on the same team as them. Everyone is dealt four cards (no one else should see the cards) and the rest are stacked beside the dealer.

Lastly, each team needs to meet together and think of a secret, nonverbal cue. This could be something like scratching your nose, fixing your glasses, clapping, etc. You can also come up with "fake" cues to throw the other teams off, but don't let other teams know what your cue is! (leave the room if you have to). Once you've decided, grab your alcohol and get ready to begin the game.

Rules

The object of the game is to get all four of the same number card (such as four seven, four queens, etc.). Everyone races to acquire four of a kind, and when they have it, their TEAMMATE has to vocally call "Kemps!" before another team calls "Counter-Kemps" on them. Each round only lasts around about 5 minutes, & It's a lot harder than it sounds as people generally get distracted trying to get four of a kind they and don't notice their partner frantically signaling them until it's too late!

The game begins by the dealer picking up the top 4 cards and laying them face-up in the middle of the table. Once the cards are down, each player can race to pick a card up but must immediately put one of their own cards down (always face up) in exchange. You can pick up cards to fake people into thinking you're collecting a certain card, or you can even put down certain cards to bait others into picking them up in order to see what they might be collecting (as you play more you will learn advanced tactics).

The game proceeds in this manner until no one wants to exchange any more cards from the middle pile of 4. When everyone is happy with what they have, the dealer wipes the pile into the "dead card pile" and pulls 4 new cards from the top of the deck, and the game proceeds as usual.

Once someone gets four of a kind, they must somehow let the other person on your team know you have four of a kind without the other teams realizing what you're doing (This is where the secret code comes in) If you think your team mate is giving you a signal and has four of a kind you point at them and yell "kemps!". If they show their hand and they are wrong, YOU lose. Note: You cannot call Kemps on your own hand.

If you think someone on the other team has four of a kind and is trying to signal their partner, you can point at them and yell "Counter-Kemps!" on them, & they then show the hand. If you're correct, you win the round and get to pour up a shot for each member of the team that got counter-kemps'd. If you're wrong, you lose, but you only have to drink your beer.

At the end of each round, every member of a losing teams has to drink. If two people on the same team yell "Kemps!" on each other at the same time and are correct, everyone has to drink twice.

As always, please remember to drink responsibly! This alcohol drinking game is not meant to lead to you becoming sick due to over-consumption of alcohol. Need a sober ride?
