Summary

The Cheers to the Governor drinking game is a social game that really only requires people, alcohol, and a creative mind to enjoy. It's also great for drinking alcohol and enjoying a pool on a nice day. All you do is count to 21 and create rules that collect over time, making the game more and more complicated.

Setup

Sitting in a circle is preferable, but I once played a really fun version in a pool. Basically just gather 'round, get your drinks ready, and prepare to get drunk.

Rules

The rules is every individual round of Cheers to the Governor are different. No two games will ever be the same. Everyone has a drink. The game begins by the players counting off. I say "1" and the guy next to me says "2" then the guy next to him says "3" etc. This continues until you get to "21" at which point the players toast and yell "Cheers to the Governor" and drink. The person who said 21 now has the privilege of making up a rule. A rule can be anything that the rest of the players are willing to agree to.

An example would be "Tommy drinks on 7". From that point forth when the count reaches 7, Ol' Tommy takes a drink. The rule maker can decide whether Tommy drinks in place of saying 7 or has to say it. Feel free to be specific. Other examples include "name a US state on 12, no repeats", "say quatro instead of 4" etc. When someone breaks a rule or messes something up, the group must go back to 1 and start over. (the person after the person who messed up says 1) Other rules include "now we're counting backwards" "no more swearing", and "15 happens twice now". Anything to throw the wrench in the gears is fun, especially late in the game.

Although the game usually just ends when everyone is too drunk or tired, it will officially end when all numbers are occupied by a rule (15 twice counts as 15 having a rule) and one complete round all the way up to 21 is accomplished with no mistakes (at which point everyone wins as they're all drunk!). Good luck!

As always, please remember to drink responsibly! This alcohol drinking game is not meant to lead to you becoming sick due to over-consumption of alcohol. Need a sober ride?
